Your Guide to the World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026

The inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship kicks off on the 11th September in Budapest and will run for over three fast-paced sessions across the evenings this weekend in what is essentially a mini world championship, but only for the best athletes in the world this year based on season's bests, and that's it: no limit on the number of athletes per nation per discipline; it's just the fastest and strongest athletes in the world. Only the sprints have semi-finals: the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, sprint hurdles and 400mH; every other track event and all the field events just go straight into a final, meaning this championship is going to be very fast-paced, and the aim of each session is to have virtually zero downtime between races and to go straight from one race into another.
